FAQ

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

MISSED LESSONS:

To be eligible for a makeup lesson you must contact me BEFORE your scheduled lesson time. If I am not contacted, payment will still be expected for that missed lesson as I reserve that time for you. It is your responsibility to contact me about requesting a makeup lesson. Please text or call me. If you do not contact me within 1 week, I will assume you have forfeited that lesson.

Openings are generally created by cancellations. As openings occur, they will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Students who do not show up to the scheduled makeup lesson will lose the opportunity to schedule that lesson again. Lessons must be made up within the same month, otherwise they will expire. As a courtesy to others, if you know you're not planning to attend a lesson please notify me as soon as possible so I can open up your slot for make-ups or alternative lesson times for others in the studio.

PLEASE BE ON TIME:

It is very important that we start and end each lesson on time. It is a good idea to arrive 5 minutes early so they are ready to begin with their books open and ready. There is so much to accomplish in 30 minutes! I can’t afford to run late as that will affect the next student’s time.

SPORTS/ACTIVITIES CONFLICTS:

I will do my very best to accommodate your needs if a sports or activity conflict arises. You are welcome to change to a different time slot by checking the OPEN slots on my calendar. If a suitable time slot cannot be found, payment is still expected if you wish to hold your spot until your child can return. Otherwise, your time slot will become available to other students on my waiting list.

SUPERVISION:

Most parents opt to drop students off and come back to pick them up. However, you are welcome to stay during the lesson but I ask that you sit in another room so you are not “visible” to your child. It allows them to focus better on the lesson. I request that other siblings or friends do not attend as I cannot be held accountable for any injuries that may occur in my home. If it is necessary to bring others, please supervise them and bring quiet activities for them to work on.

INCLEMENT WEATHER:

In case of inclement weather, it is best to call or text me to see if lessons are still being held. I will do my best to contact everyone ASAP if lessons need to be cancelled. Safety is priority of course, however just because school gets cancelled may not mean we are unable to hold lessons if the weather improves!

HAND WASHING POLICY:

When students arrives, they should wash their hands in my bathroom sink or use hand sanitizer before their lesson begins. This will help reduce germs from being spread. I also clean my piano keys with disinfectant each week.

As a reminder, if your child was home from school because of illness, please do not send them to lessons. Call or text me as soon as you know they won't be able to make it to lessons, and ask to schedule a make-up lesson if desired. Thank you for your cooperation. We all want to stay as healthy as possible, especially during the cold and flu season!

PRACTICE:

Please do not cancel the lesson if you or your child thinks they haven’t had enough time to practice. Even though they may not feel ready for the lesson, it is still important for them to attend. We can always work on other skills such as note-reading, technique, sight-reading, or flashcards. I will also impress upon them how important it is for them to practice at the VERY LEAST 10 minutes a day and to come prepared for each lesson. Please be respectful of this and help them consistently find time in their schedule to practice.

PAYMENT POLICY:

My payment structure is based on a monthly fee or semester tuition, much like a club membership or sports activity registration. Tuition is due on the first lesson day of that month. This reserves your time slot in my teaching schedule.

  • If your child is absent the first lesson of the month, please contact me or mail me your payment. This is monthly income that I count on for our family's budget. Thank you for your understanding!

PAYMENT OPTIONS:

Some families prefer to pay on a semester or bi-monthly basis. Just add the number of months you are paying for and I will mark them as paid upon receipt of your check. The following methods are accepted but cash is preferred.

  1. Cash

  2. Check (made out to Jessica Lee Sloyer)

  3. Venmo

  4. Paypal
